The Second Skin is a concept that explores and transgresses the typical ways the body contour.
The body contour has become an especially privileged fashion object, and consequently time clothes have often conformed to the natural lines of the body. The Second Skin explores the relation between the body and clothes by transgressing its "natural" boundaries through illusions and allusions of form, texture, and print with the goal of providing fresh vocabularies that offer new ways for wearers to present themselves to themselves and to the world. For instance, I ensconce the body in soft sculputre, refiguring its scale and proportionality. I envision clothes as both rendering explicity their capacity to represent the self, as well as building upon and breaking with past conventions in order to allow an endless refashioning of the self disallowed by the limited vocabulary of much fashion today.
